just pasta-ing the time

it's my mom's last couple of days of vacation, so we celebrated by making fresh pasta! she gave me a pasta attachment for my kitchen-aid a couple years ago, but i never got around to using it. goodness, pasta-making...what a process. it was fun, though. we: made whole-wheat dough, ran it through the flat press on three different settings to get it thin enough, then ran it through the fettucini cutter. we decided against laying the noodles out to dry. instead we opted for the bird nest method. i was pretty nervous...the nests seemed a bit dodgey. i thought they would dry in lump form, then go ahead and cook into a bunch of lumps, but it worked out. they separated once they got into the boiling water. we only made one recipe worth, which claimed "one pound." maybe one pound on mercury! it made a ton of pasta! good thing...i was thinking of doubling the recipe, but decided not to. looks like we'll have a whole wheat (week) o' pasta! next on the pasta experiment list: tortellini.
