christmas spirit

i'm finally starting to get that fun christmasy feeling. i've been trying to get it for at least a week, but kept failing. we've been christmas shopping since last thursday, i finally decorated my tree on sunday, and i even gave out some gifts at work today, but that special feeling didn't sink in until i made some christmas cookies this evening while listening to my ever growing collection of christmas music. it was my first experience using a cookie press. egg-citing! actually, non-egg-citing...the recipe didn't use any eggs. neat! i never made eggless cookies before! i made ginger spice cookies, and used the christmas tree disk. i was so excited when i pressed out my first 24 cookies. all so uniform and so perfectly pine treeish. slight disappointment settled in after they came out of the oven...they spread out on the sheet lost their christmas tree persona. now they just kinda look like odd (near-fish) shaped peanut butter cookies with red and green sprinkles. but they taste christmasy, and to further the christmas cookie ruse, i put them in christmas tins. no one will ever know...shhhh. don't tell!

i'm scarving!

this month, after being disappointed with my failed (and soon to be frogged) sweater (more on that later), i'm going back to my knitting roots. scarves! my mama is going to cali to visit my sis and uncles for the holidays (both southern and northern areas), and requested a little somethin'-somethin' to keep her neck warm in the cold christmas weather. so i found some nice yarn while i was in cali a couple weeks ago, and came out with this guy. the pattern name actually had the word "men's" in it, but i thought neutral-ish colors would make it ok for the ladies. i mostly liked it because this stitch kinda looked waffley. its cream color on both ends, and tan in the middle. like waffles and syrup! or maybe waffle cone and vanilla ice cream...mmmmm...waffle cone. i think i need to eat. ;o)
