feelin' the aloha

my cousin's wedding was the other weekend...these little postcards are what they used at each person's place setting for the program schedule. i don't know how many different pictures they had, but it seemed like at least everyone per table had a different one (so at least 8). i managed to snag these three from my table mates. there was another one i could have brought home, but it was a little racy for me...the hula girl was neked on top. gasp!!! scandalous! my personal fav is the hula girl with the fro. think its an accurate portrayal of hula dancers in the early days?

poor spatial awareness

so this was my first try making an actual birthday cake. actual as in ACK-CHEW-WALL. ok, i don't know what that means. but usually, the cakes i make (even for birthdays) take the form of bundt (i bought the pan, i want to use it as much as possible, darn it), may have some kind of ganache or frosting, but never writing. when i volunteered for the cake, i thought, how hard is it to write "happy birthday" on a cake? i scrapbook. i make cards. this'll be... well...a piece of cake! wrong-o. writing with icing is harder than it looks. you have to go soooooo slow...and turns out i'm not that patient. not to mention my poor spatial awareness...not realizing that "birthday" is longer than "happy," thus needing to be smaller, NOT bigger. oh well, now i know for next time. at least i had enough sense in me to buy tips for the icing. came with 4 different tips...thus the wierd star puffs around the cake. like i said, i like to get the most out of my purchases!

back to the laaaaazy norm...

I was a tad nervous for a little while. when our girl found her way back home, i started thinking the boys were acting kinda funny with her. like she had been gone for too long and they forgot she was their sister. they were: not as playful, not hanging out with her as much, and not cleaning each other all the time. but looks like my fears have been laid to rest...literaly. today i caught them taking a cat-nap together after some serious ear cleaning. weird, i know, but it makes me feel a whoooole lot better. they so cute!
